Sorry! You can not show the comment counter in the menu item. It needs code customization and you need to hire a developer as this is a new feature to add in the theme. However, you may set it via some plugins if available.

We could not find those plugin in WP repo.

Why you need to add those function in page.php.
There is already a function name the_content() in the page.php which helps to loads content that you have added into your pages.
Can you please elaborate a bit more regarding to this problem?

To show the featured image into your post page just follow this documentation although, we are seeing the featured image into your post page and site is also fast as well. However, we recommended you to use any cache plugin as well as CDN for the super fast site.
