Sorry! This feature is not available in the free version of the theme you need to upgrade the theme into the premium version where you can easily change color of the category tags as well as get lots of other feature that you will enjoy.

Yes you can change the background of the site from Appearance > Customize > Colors > Elements Color where you can see the Background Color option to change the background color of the site but if you wish to change the specific widget background color you need to add the custom CSS code in Appearance > Customize > Additional CSS

You can simply add the custom menu and link in the main menu, However you can not see the icons for specific social link you added in main menu.
