Hi Heather,

First go to Appearance > Customize > Ambition Theme Options > Background Color there you can see the Main Content option where you can change the background color to black for page content area.
And for font color for that content area go to Appearance > Customize > Ambition Theme Options > Font Color where you can see Content to change the font color to any color you like.

To have the more space between page and the right sidebar go to Appearance -> Customize/Theme Options -> Design Options Tab -> Custom CSS paste the following CSS code and Click on save button:

    width: 63.64%;
}
#secondary {
    margin-left: 5.06%;
    width: 31.28%;
}

Hi Heidi,

Features slider image will cover you whole screen size with center position and we have designed our theme this way.
To disable image cover just Go to Appearance -> Customize -> Ambition Theme Options -> Custom CSS and paste the below CSS code then click on Save button.

    background-size: inherit;
    background-repeat: no-repeat;
}

First activate a different theme and delete the old version of the theme from your WP theme directory and add a new version of the theme and activate it.
