How can i limit the amount of words the slider pulls for the “post/page excerpt?” Right now the slider is pulling too many and the grey box is covering too much of the picture.

You can use the post/page excerpt box just below the post/page editor for this. For more info have a look here http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/excerpts/

YES! THANK YOU! I’ve been working with wordpress for years, and never noticed that box was one of the hidden boxes under screen options that you can check!
