I have been making attempts to be more environmentally aware about my everyday routine and one of the questions that has been raising a lot of questions is the following: are Ziploc bags recyclable? Being used by many families to keep their food, snacks, and leftovers, it appears that it is necessary to know how to dispose of these bags in the most appropriate manner.

Ziploc bags are usually constructed using a form of plastic referred to as polyethylene which in technical terms can be recycled. The thing is, however, they are not accepted in the majority of curbside recycling programs. This is primarily due to the fact that thin plastic films such as those found in Ziploc bags can be tangled up in recycling machines and become an issue during the processing of the sorting.

Due to this, it has been a puzzle to many people whether they should dispose of these bags or attempt to recycle it. I have heard that clean and dry Ziploc bags can be recycled under special drop-off programs in grocery stores or retail outlets that receive plastic film. Such programs usually take things such as plastic grocery bags, bread bags, food storage bags simultaneously.

The other alternative that people suggest is that of reusing Ziploc bag whenever feasible. As an illustration, they can be cleaned and re-used a number of times to store non-greasy food or to store household smaller objects. Reusing them would not only save money in the long run, but also waste.

That being the case, I would still like to know how others cope with this problem in their day to day lives. Do you attempt to recycle Ziploc bags using store drop-off programmes or simply do you primarily concentrate on reusing them as much as possible? Besides, are there special cleaning procedures that make them last longer?
